If you’re looking for a deal on music streaming, Amazon Music Unlimited (which is now offering a 3-month free trial here) may be it, at least for Prime members, according to numerous reviewers. How does Amazon Music compare to other streaming services? The hi-fi service can be streamed to multiple devices and features major artists like The Beatles, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Stevie Nicks, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Eagles and Elton John. But for $8.99 per month for Prime members, and $9.99 per month for non-members (following the free trial), you can get Amazon Music Unlimited, which is Amazon’s ad-free, on-demand music subscription service featuring 60 million songs, more than 70,000 podcasts (like NPR’s Up First, Stuff You Should Know, Criminal, Ted Talks Daily) and thousands of playlists and stations. Prime members get Prime Music for free, which includes two million songs. This past month, I tried out Amazon Music Unlimited, which is now offering a 3-month free trial here (cancel anytime) for new subscribers. I’m already a loyal SiriusXM subscriber (I love having multiple live news networks), and over the years I’ve dabbled with different music streaming services like Pandora, Spotify and Apple Music. Equally as certain: Spotify ever shipping HiFi.Whether I’m in the car with my kids listening to the latest Kidz Bop album, Broadway show tunes or the Descendants soundtrack on repeat - or by myself binging true crime podcasts, NPR news and top-40 pop hits - I nearly always have some kind of music or podcast streaming. We’ve asked Eddy for an update on global paying Apple Music customers and will update when he 100% responds with the answer. Apple probably picked up a few customers here and there since that date.įor comparison, Spotify publicly disclosed a slightly higher figure at the start of this year with 210 million global paid customers. Officially, Apple Music has 60 million global paid customers, but that figure comes from the mouth of Eddy Cue in a French interview from 2019. Our take? Either the NMPA data isn’t very representative, or Amazon Prime is doing a lot of heavy lifting. While Spotify leads Apple Music by nearly 12 million paid customers, Amazon Music lags behind Apple Music by a mere 3.3 million subscribers. Perhaps most surprising, however, is where Amazon ranks. The same data shows YouTube Music and Pandora Radio capturing 8.5 million and 2.4 million paying customers, respectively. Can you imagine how unfair Spotify would claim the business was if Apple were in the lead? For comparison, Apple Music accounts for 32.6 million paid music subscription customers in the US. Spotify, the anti-App Store lobbying group that also sells a music subscription, takes the crown with 44.4 million paying customers, according to the data. The data represents the total number of subscribers to each music service in the US during February 2023. MBW cites data recently shared by the National Music Publishers Association that claims to break down how various streaming music services perform in the US. While there isn’t much insight into how the streaming music wars are playing out, a new report from Music Business Worldwide hopes to share some perspective.
